Radio Field Day

Portola Valley Radio Communications Day

Saturday, June 23, 2018
9:00 am to 3:00 pm
Town Center

Come learn about being prepared for an emergency in Portola Valley. Learn about the Town's radio network and communications.  Plus learn how you can help! Come have some fun!

Each year the Portola Valley Emergency Preparedness Committee (EPC), Woodside Fire Protection District (WFPD) and Citizens Emergency Response Preparedness Program (CERPP) - in conjunction with many local amateur radio operators in the Portola Valley Amateur Radio Club (repeater KM6DLG) - participate in the National American Radio Relay League Field Day. On this day, ham radio operators all over the U.S. and in some cases the world, set up their radio stations, often in emergency simulations, and endeavor to make as many contacts with other radio stations as possible in a 24-hour period. The Portola Valley Amateur Radio Club participates and uses the day to set up all our emergency communications radio equipment and tests is to make sure it all works as planned.

The EPC Communications team will “light up” our communications capabilities including our PV Emergency Communications Trailer.  We will be operating on many radio bands with different radio equipment in many modes.  We will also activate the PV Emergency Operations Center CERPP VHF radio (we will be listening if any division wants to call us for a test).

If you are interested in our work at EPC, amateur radio, you’re a ham already (bring your rig by to make sure it works on our repeaters), we’d love to see you. Usually, Woodside Fire drops by as well as members of the San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services and the Palo Alto EPC Chief Ken Dueker.  We get extra credit for all these visitors.

CERPP Division Leaders We will monitor your CERPP Division VHF Radio Channel 3 from 11 am – 1 pm.

If you’re an amateur radio operator, please tune us up on 146.52 MHz direct – no tone, or our PV ARC repeater network, either 146.085 MHz, plus, PL 110.9 or 224.82 MHz, minus PL 110.9.  Corrected frequencies.

Portola Valley invites one and all to come by and see our EPC Communications team in action. Please click here to view the flyer.

Questions: please email Ray Rothrock.

Hosted by the Portola Valley Emergency Preparedness Committee and the PV Amateur Radio Club.
