Mountain Lion Encounter – The Sunrise Trail in the Blue Oaks Area is Closed Until Further Notice
Dear Portola Valley Residents,
There have been two reported encounters with an aggressive mountain lion on the Sunrise Trail in the Blue Oaks area. The first encounter occurred yesterday in the early morning and the second encounter occurred today. The Town was formally notified of both incidents today. Out of an abundance of caution the Sunrise Trail is closed until further notice.
The mountain lion may be protecting her young cub and is acting aggressively towards hikers/runners. Mountain lion sightings are fairly common in Portola Valley. However, the aggressive behavior of this particular mountain lion warrants us to close the Sunrise Trail.
