Update on Leaf Blower Discussion
Message from Town Manager, Jeremy Dennis:
Last night, the Town Council adopted an ordinance prohibiting the use of gas-powered leaf blowers, except as needed on an emergency basis.
The Council recognized that a transition from gas-powered to electric may be costly, so the ordinance will not take effect until January 2021 (two years). This two-year period will give both residents and landscape professionals sufficient time to successfully make this transition. Additionally, the Council recognized that the cost of this process may be burdensome, so staff was directed to create an incentive program to foster the switch.
Finally, the Council asked staff to review potential exceptions to the prohibition related to creek side flooding prevention work.
Thank you to all of those who provided the Town Council with comments, and to those who attended last night’s meeting.
