Council to Discuss Fire Safe Construction
At its regularly scheduled meeting on March 25, the Council will discuss a possible amendment to the Building Code to include Chapter 7A (regarding fire safe construction) for the Town of Portola Valley.
As the Town looks forward to pursuing a Town-wide fire safety program for the community and based on discussions at the February 25th Council meeting on the CAL FIRE mapping, staff is providing Council with some programs to address man made structures and the natural environment. At the February 25th meeting, staff noted and Council concurred that there needed to be further discussion on:
- whether Chapter 7A should apply Town-wide;
- the definition of "new building" as it relates to the requirements of Chapter 7A of the Building Code;
- who would be responsible to determine what products were ignition resistant; and
- who would be responsible for enforcing the requirements of the Government Code regarding fuel management and maintenance.
