Town Picnic on June 8th

Post Date:05/07/2013

Portola Valley's annual Town Picnic is scheduled for Saturday, June 8 from 10:30 am to 3 pm at Town Center (765 Portola Road). Special events this year incorporate a return to the historic traditions of the picnic with afternoon activities especially for adults. Desperate House Band will provide a musical background for an afternoon of bingo for those 10 and up, and “A Taste of Portola Valley” will offer a social mixer for adults, with an opportunity to sample wines from Fogarty, Portola Valley Vineyards, Twin Palms, Hale Mary and other local vintners. Tickets for this adults-only social mixer will be available for purchase at the event.

The Zots to Tots race will kick off activities at the Alpine Inn/Rossotti’s parking lot (3915 Alpine Road). Registration begins at 9:00 am with the race beginning at 10 am. Participants can walk, run, or for the final year, ride the route on a bicycle. Race fee is $15 and includes a exchange for the race bib at the end of the race. Extra t-shirts will be available for sale at the picnic. Winner of this year’s t-shirt design is fourth grader William Christensen.

Motorists can expect traffic disruption between the Alpine Inn and Town Center along Alpine and Portola roads between 10 and 10:30 am for the safety of the racers. Sheriff’s deputies will be on hand to control traffic during this period.

Throughout the day various Town committees and local groups will staff informational tables. For example, the library will recruit summer readers and host “Rock Art,” with the Friends of the Library holding a used book, DVD and CD sale. Other activities will include a bouncy house, dual bay slide, dunk tank, and bungee run. The Girl Scouts will host a cake walk, and the Cub Scouts will provide various carnival games and sell popcorn, cotton candy and snow cones. The Boy Scouts will sell Draeger's burgers, Schwartz hot dogs, veggie burgers, Chinese chicken salad, dim sum, chips and drinks.

The public is invited to come join in the fun. For more information, please visit our Town Picnic webpage.
