Cable & Utilities Undergrounding Committee

Meets 2nd Thursday at 8:30 am in the Historic Schoolhouse

Committee established by the Town Council in 1991

The Cable & Utilities Undergrounding Committee oversees the cable TV franchise held by ATT/Comcast. When residents have any cable service problems, the committee acts to solve them. In addition, they work to improve high speed Internet access for residents.

Community Events Committee

Meets as announced in the Historic Schoolhouse

Committee established by the Town Council in 1997

The primary responsibility of the Community Events Committee is to organize Blues and Barbecue, the annual town celebration of community and preservation of open space. The committee meets in the spring and summer to complete the various tasks necessary to ensure a splendid party. All profits from the event go to the Portola Valley Open Space Acquisition Fund.

Conservation Committee

Meets 4th Tuesday at 8:00 pm in the Historic Schoolhouse

Committee established by the Town Council in 1964

The Conservation Committee follows conservation issues and promotes programs to enhance the environment through protection of the native habitat, helping ensure that all land development respects and preserves the natural condition of the area.

Cultural Arts Committee

Meets as announced in the Historic Schoolhouse

Committee established by the Town Council in 1998

The Objectives of the Cultural Arts Committee are to:

  • Bring together the various cultural interests in the community in order to facilitate communication, interaction and mutual support;
  • Increase cultural awareness among residents of Portola Valley by sponsoring and supporting local cultural activities in the areas of art, music, science and nature, history, horticulture, drama, literature, photography and dance and by providing improved communication about cultural affairs to residents; and
  • Pursue a long-range goal of establishing a cultural center for Portola Valley.

Emergency Preparedness Committee

Meets 2nd Thursday at 8:00 am in the Historic Schoolhouse

Portola Valley emergency services (including neighborhood response programs) are coordinated by the Emergency Preparedness Committee in cooperation with the Woodside Fire Protection District and the San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services.

Geologic Safety Committee

Committee established by the Town Council in 1989

The purpose of the Geologic Safety Committee is to provide the Town Council with expert advice regarding geologic matters as they might relate to Town issues including buildings, roads and infrastructure.

Historic Resources Committee

Meets as announced in the Historic Schoolhouse

Committee established in 1982 as Archives Committee. Name changed in 1994 when Historic Element was added to the General Plan.

The chief purpose of the Historic Resources Committee is to maintain an archive of historic documents, maps and photographs for the residents of the Portola Valley region to enjoy (one may visit the archive by appointment). The committee also keeps an eye on historic properties in town and advises the Town Council about any issues relating to them.

Open Space Acquisition Advisory Committee

Meets as announced in the Historic Schoolhouse

Committee established by the Town Council in 1994

The Portola Valley Open Space Acquisition Advisory Committee's objective is to assist the Town Council in implementing the Open Space objectives spelled out in the town's Master Plan. At times it initiates fund raising programs for open space projects in the town.

Parks & Recreation Committee

Meets 3rd Monday at 7:00 pm in the Historic Schoolhouse

The Parks and Recreation committee monitors the town playing fields and recreational programs including Little League baseball, AYSO soccer and adult athletic programs. The committee also sponsors the town picnic and other community events.

Public Works Committee

The Public Works Committee's primary purpose is to provide services necessary to keep the town's infrastructure working after normal working hours, weekends and holidays. It also assists the Public Works Director keep the roads, roadsides and the drainage areas in good working condition.

Traffic Committee

Meets 1st Thursday at 8:15 am in the Historic Schoolhouse

Committee established by the Town Council in 1969

The Traffic Committee works with the Town Engineer, the Sheriff's Department, and residents to advise the Council about automobile, bicycle, equine, and pedestrian traffic issues and solutions.

Trails and Paths Committee

2nd Tuesday at 8:00 pm in the Historic Schoolhouse

Committee established by the Town Council in 1972

The Trails and Paths Committee recommends routing for and approves construction of all new trails, recommends trail usage restrictions and maintenance needs for existing trails and submits a yearly budget for the above.
