Residents Participate in a Matching Fund Gun Buy Back Campaign
Recently, the Town Council approved $10,000 donation to help deter future gun violence in our communities by supporting the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office efforts for a gun buyback program. Furthermore, the Town Council agreed to match dollar-for-dollar any community contribution to this effort up to an additional $5,000.
In the weeks following the Town Council’s action, Portola Valley residents donated a combined $1,875 to the gun buyback matching fund campaign. The Town matched the community’s donation with a dollar-for-dollar match of an additional $1,875. The total donated to the gun buy program:
|PV Residents Contribution||$1,875|
|Town Council Matching Contribution||$1,875|
Gun buyback programs are conducted throughout San Mateo County and the Sheriff’s Office pays up to $100 cash for a handgun/shotgun/rifle, and up to $200 cash for an assault rifle. The most recent gun buyback event, held in May in Redwood City, netted 427 guns.
The combined donation of $13,750 from Portola Valley residents and the Town Council will greatly help to make San Mateo County safer.
