What’s Blooming Now?
Clarkias – Farewell-to-Spring
Aptly named, these locally native clarkias put on a spectacular show near the end of spring, when most other wildflowers have finished. They are also important pollinator species, having specialist bees that exclusively pollinate Clarkias. They are exceptionally easy to grow, tolerant of soil type and will self-seed. Just never water them.
They are annuals and the seed is available at a variety of nurseries and seed distributors. Spread the seed at the end of summer and allow them to germinate with our fall and winter rains. After flowering the birds will enjoy the seed.
