About the Instructor:
Teacher Jeannie, as she is affectionately known by her students, considers herself lucky to be able to combine two of her life's passions: art and children. She has taught art to children aged 3 to 8 years old for the past 35 years, and for the last 20 years, she has been at the Town Center of Portola Valley.
Jeannie's quintessential philosophy is "Children's art is a process involving all of who they are, and helps open the door to a lifetime of self-expression." Building her lessons around seasonal themes with the use of richly illustrated children's books, Teacher Jeannie inspires children to create by using carefully selected art projects of her own design. She introduces children to many different art mediums and knows just how to instruct them in their use for ultimate success.
Jeannie's ideas for new art experiences can come from anywhere at any time, so she is ready every day with eyes wide open. She feels this freedom and spontaneity in her own life and brings it with her into the classroom, along with the ability to allow just enough freedom so the children can find their own way. This teaching style enhances a child's self-worth by helping them learn to trust their own creative abilities and their artwork. She encourages children to explore the subjects she brings to class through their own creative process, bringing to light their own ideas and discovering that the possibilities of creation are endless.
